Mesotelioma is a misspelled version of the term “mesothelioma,” (“pronounced mez-uh-thee-lee-YOH-muh). Mesothelioma is an aggressive cancer which forms in the mesothelium, a thin membrane of cells which envelop the body’s internal organs and other internal structures. Mesothelioma has three recognized forms. Pleural mesothelioma (which is the most common and occurs in the pleura around the lung), peritoneal mesothelioma (originates in the peritoneum, surrounding the abdominal cavity), and pericardial mesothelioma (occurs in the membrane surrounding the heart).
Mesothelioma is an aggressive malignancy and has no known cure, though several treatment options exist for patients at diagnosis. Palliative therapies, such as radiation and chemotherapy can ease symptoms of the disease dramatically. Mesothelioma is known only to be caused by exposure to asbestos, a toxin now banned for most uses in the United States. If you were wrongfully exposed to asbestos, you may be eligible for financial compensation. Please complete the brief form on this page to learn more about legal options you may have.
